Abstract

The woolly spider monkey,Brachyteles arachnoides, is an endangered and poorly known species whose geographical distribution is restricted to the Atlantic forest in Brazil. This paper reports observations made during a 12-month study at a site in the State of São Paulo. Information is given on troop size and composition, home range size and use, vocalizations, daily behaviour, reproduction, diet and geographical morphological variation.
