Conclusions
-
1.
The concrete plug at the base of the Nurek Dam core is a complex structure which will operate under conditions of high pressures and seismicity, and in the presence of corrosive waters.
-
2.
The sealing of construction and deformation joints, employing a stainless steel strip, and without using bituminous materials, is unique.
-
3.
Under the conditions imposed by the narrow canyon, it is expedient to use the combined concrete-placement system, employing cranes mounted on Type SÉ-3 excavators, and Type MAZ-503 dump trucks tipping directly into the block from the bridging.
-
4.
The control/measuring apparatus installed permits comprehensive observations to be made of the behavior of the structure.
