Additional information

This article by A. G. Lykoshin deals with important aspects of the design of impervious curtains and with the evaluation of the permeability of rock foundations. In it, the author expresses doubts about some substantial concepts and makes new recommendations (see also article by O. V. Il'ina, “Conference on design and construction of foundation cutoffs for high dams,” Gidrotekh. Stroitel'. No. 7, 58–59, 1972). In publishing this article for discussion, the Editors expect that its broad discussion by constructors, designers, and geologists will lead to an improvement in the quality and a reduction in the cost of impervious elements in the foundations of water-retaining structures.

Translated from Gidrotekhnicheskoe Stroitel'stvo, No. 3, pp. 35–38, March, 1973.
