Summary

Non mobile (mob) and hypermobile (mob+) mutants were isolated fromR. meliloti strain Ve 26. The mobility ofR. meliloti was found to play an important role in its infectivity and nodulation. When Ve 26 mob+ mutant was mixed with each of Ve 26 mob mutant and 2011 strain (non mobile comparing with Ve 26 mob+ mutant) in mini-greenhouse, 86% and 48% of nodules were respectively formed by the former strain. An antagonist phenomenon was observed between Ve 26 mob mutant and 2011 strain when the cultures of the two strains were mixed at different concentrations.
