Summary
Non mobile (mob−) and hypermobile (mob+) mutants were isolated fromR. meliloti strain Ve 26. The mobility ofR. meliloti was found to play an important role in its infectivity and nodulation. When Ve 26 mob+ mutant was mixed with each of Ve 26 mob− mutant and 2011 strain (non mobile comparing with Ve 26 mob+ mutant) in mini-greenhouse, 86% and 48% of nodules were respectively formed by the former strain. An antagonist phenomenon was observed between Ve 26 mob− mutant and 2011 strain when the cultures of the two strains were mixed at different concentrations.
