Summary
Considering the recent advances in the field of virus systematique a nomenclature system concerning the insect viruses is described.
As these viruses have a particular position, principle of compromise allowing an evolution towards a Linnean system is proposed. The former generic names would have to be kept in adding the suffix: «virus». The specific names would be also kept but not the author names.
This system has been agreed by the group of specialists of insect viruses and then it was taken up again in 1955 by the International committee of nomenclature of viruses.
