The effects of malnutrition on the generation time ofNosema whitei in larvalTribolium castaneum reared on several commercial flours

Abstract

The generation time ofNosema whitei in larvalTribolium castaneum reared on flours with slight nutritional deficiencies (e.g., protein and B-vitamin deficiencies) was not affected. However, the generation time was significantly increased when the host was reared on diets with marked nutritional deficiencies and with alleged toxic components.

La durée du développement, jusqu'à la sporulation, deNosema whitei chez les larves deTribolium castaneum n'est pas affectée par des farines présentant de légères carences alimentaires (en protéines et en vitamines B, par example). Elle est augmentée de façon significative lorsque l'hôte est élevé avec des régimes ayant des carences importantes et des composés supposés toxiques.
