Laboratory rearing ofPeridesmia discus on irradiated alfalfa weevil eggs

Abstract

A method for the rearing ofPeridesmia discus (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) on eggs of alfalfa weevil,Hypera postica (Gyllenhal) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) with 5.0 Krads of gamma radiation is described. Using this procedure 21 P1P. discus produced an F1 of 129 individuals and a group of F1 adults yielded 172 F1P. discus. Depending on temperature the range of developmental times average from 12.5 to 28.8 days. Productivity of the technique was limited by the egg output of the alfalfa weevil culture and the original number ofP. discus available.

On décrit une méthode d’élevage dePeridesmia discus (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) sur des œufs irradiés à 5 Krad du Charançon de la Luzerne (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). En utilisant cette technique, 21 parents P1 deP. discus ont donné une F1 de 129 individus et un groupe d’adultes F1 a produit une F2 de 172 parasites.

Selon la température les délais moyens de développement varient de 12,5 à 28,8 jours. La productivité est limitée par la production d’œufs dans les élevages de charançons et le nombre initial deP. discus disponibles.
