Summary

A strain ofT. vivax known to relapse in the bovine host following therapy with diminazine aceturate at dosages of14 mg/kg was established in four immature zebu males. When parasitaemia was well developed the animals were treated at the rates of3·5, 7, 10·5 and14 mg/kg with diminazine. They relapsed after aparasitaemic intervals of14, 30, 23 and31 days respectively as judged by thick blood smear examinations. On nine occasions during the aparasitaemic interval jugular blood from the animal treated at the rate of3·5 mg/kg was tested for the existence of sub-patent parasitaemia by sub-inoculation into susceptible zebus and by the absorption/elution technique of Lanham and Godfrey (1970) with negative results.
