The performance of several Dutch potato cultivars in the arid tropics of northern Sudan

Potato Research Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Field experiments were conducted for three consecutive seasons in the arid tropics of northern Sudan to evaluate the yielding potential of twelve Dutch potato cultivars. The results indicated that the relatively unpredictable component of cultivar seasons interactions was less important than the relatively predictable component of cultivars. Environmental effects were thus less important and the tested cultivars could be differentiated with regard to yielding potential.

Mean tuber yields were found to be positively correlated with stand count percentages and the number of tubers produced per unit area.
