Summary
In this paper it is argued from published descriptions and experimental results, that russet scab in the USA and russet scab in Europe are two different diseases. To resolve this nomenclatural problem in the English language we propose that the name ‘netted scab’ should henceforth be used for the russet scab in Europe in agreement with the other European common names, viz. the Danish ‘netskurv’, the Dutch ‘netschurft’, the Swedish ‘Nätskorv’ and the German ‘Netzschorf’.
