Summary

Heparin treatment increased significantly the urinary output of sodium, potassium and water in patients suffering from heart failure with oedema and in patients without any signs of heart failure or oedema also. The heparin treatment decreased the urinary excretion of total neutral 17-ketosteroids (mg/24 hours) both in women and men. The development of an heparin-like polysaccharide without strong anticoagulant activity might be of value in treatment of oedematous states.
