Abstract
Five cases are described of patients with a histopathological diagnosis of ameloblastoma located in the interalveolar septum. The results were:
-
1.
The cases consisted of a man and 4 women, with an average age of 46. In all 5 cases the lesion occurred in the incisor or canine region of the mandible.
-
2.
Swelling of the gingiva was the chief complaint in 4 cases.
-
3.
Radiographically, there was a radiolucent area with a well-defined margin in 4 cases. The lesion had a multilocular appearance in 4 cases. Divergency and resorption of the roots were observed in 2 cases.
-
4.
According to the findings of the operation, one patient was diagnosed as having an intraosseous lesion. In 3 cases the buccal or lingual cortical plate was absorbed. One lesion was suspected as being peripheral.
-
5.
These cases were diagnosed as ameloblastoma of the acanthomatous type or follicular type histopathologically according to the WHO classification.
