Lyme disease. First reported case in Sicily

Abstract

Recently many cases of Lyme disease have been described in Italy. The patients come prevalently from Friuli Venezia Giulia and the eastern Ligurian Coast. Isolated cases have been diagnosed in other parts of northern Italy and in the central regions. We describe the first Sicilian case, concluding that Lyme borreliosis may well be widely distributed in our country.

Sommario

Recentemente molti casi di Malattia di Lyme sono stati descritti in Italia. I pazienti provengono soprattutto dal Friuli Venezia Giulia e dalla parte orientale della costa Ligure. Casi isolati sono stati segnalati in altre regioni dell'Italia settentrionale e centrale. Descriviamo il primo caso siciliano e concludiamo quindi che la borreliosi di Lyme è diffusa in tutto il paese.
