Abstract
Responding to increased concern for an aquatically literate public, the authors discuss the present state of aquatic education curriculum efforts, the need for a comprehensive conceptual scheme for aquatic studies, and the subsequent development and use of the COAST Conceptual Scheme for Aquatic Studies.
