Abstract

Drying-up of the Aral Sea and increase in the mineralization level of the Amudar'ya River affect the construction conditions in the Aral Southern Region. It is shown that the causes of building failures in the city of Nukus are rise of the groundwater level and increase in the water mineralization. Specific recommendations are given for protection of the buildings against aggressive groundwater action.
