Summary
The construction, handling and performance of a new glass sphere sampler is described, which enables the sampling of 100 l of water for the analysis of lipophilic organic compounds. The sampler can be operated down to a water depth of ca. 200 m and the sampling is free of contamination. The organic compounds are extracted in the same sampler by mixing with an organic solvent which can be lighter or heavier than water. The sampler has been tested successfully for the determination of hydrocarbons and the results were compared with those of a 10 l sampler.
