Summary

The separation of the diastereoisomeric racemates of salmefamol and labetalol has been investigated systematically. The O-tertiarybutyldimethylsilyl, N-trifluoroacetyl derivatives have been found to give good separation and to provide a method of quantitative analysis suitable for quality control purposes. For labetalol, prior conversion of the amide into nitrile has been found to be necessary.
