Separation of secondary alcohols by capillary gas chromatography

Summary

The retention characteristics of C9−C14 secondary alcohols and their acetyl esters were studied on capillary columns coated with Carbowax 1500 and 20M and OV-101 stationary phases. Better separation can be achieved if the secondary alcohols are transformed to their acetyl derivatives. In this form, all isomers of the C9−C14 secondary alcohols could be separated in high efficiency capillary columns caoted with OV-101 and Carbowax 1500. Retention index data for the secondary alcohols and their acetates are also given.
