Enzymes as HPLC stationary phases for chiral resolutions: Initial investigations withα-chymotrypsin

Summary

A new HPLC stationary phase was synthesized by the covalent immobilization of α-chymotrypsin on silica. This increased the stability of the enzyme, without decreasing its activity. The initial chromatographic studies show that this phase can be used for chiral separations of enantiomeric solutes. The stereochemical resolutions of amino acids and amino acid derivatives are reported.
