Abstract
An installation for radiant heating and methods of x-ray phase analysis and microstructure investigation are used to study the phase relations and microstructure of molten cast specimens of the Al2O3 - ZrO2 - mullite subsystem as a function of the melt's crystallization rate. The data obtained by thermal analysis are used to construct the liquidus and to refine the coordinates of invariant points in the given subsystem. The effect of Y2O3 and Na2O on the phase composition and structure of the refractories and the optimal amounts of these admixtures for to manufacturing molten cast refractories under conditions of radiant heating are determined.
