Summary
Multiple micro-embolism in the coronary system of the rabbit heart-when this occurs to an unequal extent in the two halves-causes an especially pronounced fall in cardiac performance.
To explain this the hypothesis is suggested that the heart is accustomed to a certain relationship of performance between its right and left halves. Should the heart be forced to acute efforts because of an added burden on the circulatory system, thus disturbing the relationship between the two halves, this would be equivalent to an additional strain on the heart.
