Abstract
Large classes require special preparation and organization to ensure an excellent learning experience. The challenge is to motivate students, answer questions, and offer frequent evaluation of progress, in spite of class size. The challenge can be met with appropriate lectures complemented with small weekly discussion sessions led by graduate students or senior majors. This paper draws on the author's experience at Princeton University teaching classes with more than 300 students.
