Summary
Among the various stationary phases available for glc, an important number may be used for the analysis of complex hydrocarbon mixtures. Adsorbents for gsc on the other hand are generally limited in their application to the analysis of gaseous mixtures. By virtue of its method of preparation which eliminates all polar active sites from the surface (treatment at 3000°C under vacuum), graphitized carbon black behaves unlike other adsorbents and is of general use. However, our study is limited to the analysis of aromatic and paraffinic hydrocarbons mixtures for which the use of graphitized carbon black is very interesting. The particular nature of the separations obtained on a carbon black column offers a good solution to many analytical problems for example: resolution of benzene-thiophene, ethyl benzene-cumene-xylenes mixtures.
