Malakoplakia of the colon

Summary

Two new patients with malakoplakia of the colon have been described and 6 previously reported patients reviewed. Malakoplakia of the colon was a severe, debilitating illness in 2 patients and was fatal in 2 others. In the remaining 4 patients, it was an incidental finding associated with a carcinoma in 3 and an adenoma in 1.

Histologic criteria for the diagnosis of malakoplakia have been discussed.
