Summary
In the correlation of reversed phase liquid chromatography capacity factors through the equation
the use of Abrahams β H2 , α H2 , which are Gibbs-energyrelated via equilibrium constants (log K Hb , K Ha ), is entirely equivalent to the use of Kamlet-Tafts β2, α2 for the hydrogen bond terms. It is shown that for most compounds, these two sets of basicity, (β H2 and β2, are close.
