Summary
It is shown that in Central Europe there exists a 12-day pressure rhythm of considerable amplitude. This phenomenon is caused by a rhythmic blocking mechanism, whose duration depends upon the time necessary for the transformation of cold air masses having grown passive on the continent, into warm air masses. For this reason one observes during the transition of cyclones from the Atlantic to Central Europe, a change in the duration of the pressure-rhythm from 6 days (=Atlantic rhythm of cyclone-series) to 12 days (=Central European rhythm of cyclones).
