Summary
A method for chromatographic determination of small specific areas in large volumes of gases by means of dynamic desorption is described. The effect of thermodiffusion is considered as well as the differentiation of the response caused by thermodiffusion from that caused by adsorption of gas on the surface area measured. The peculiar behaviour of the flame ionization detector under high background current is described. The examples of the surface area measurements of chromatographic papers, pieces of leather, plastic materials, corrosive layers, and wood in their original unmodified geometrical state are presented.
