Summary
Precolumn derivatisation of sugars with isatoic anhydride forms anthranilate derivatives. The anthraniloyl derivative imparts a UV chromophoric group and also hydrophobicity to the compound which makes it useful for separation and detection of sugars by reverse-phase chromatography. This was found to be a cheap and easy method for separation and detection of sugars.
