Summary
A rapid HPLC assay with post-column derivatization has been developed for the determination of narasin in fermentation broth. The reaction of narasin with substituted benzaldehydes was investigated under first order conditions and the rate constants were determined for a variety of substituted benzaldehydes. Vanillin reacted most rapidly to produce a red color. The reaction conditions were optimized to acheive a maximum response with a minimum analysis time.
