Summary

In this paper the variability of the annual mean and seasonal mean temperature for Athens since 1860 is examined. The interannual variability reached a peak in the decade 1870/80 then decreased to a minimum value in the decade 1900/10 and increased again during the period 1910/60 and finally decreased in the last two decades. The Bartlett's test applied to the variances reveals no statistically significant interannual variability neither in Athens nor in four other stations in Greece. It is also shown that the annual mean temperature and the interannual variability are positively correlated in Athens.
