Summary

This paper examines the genesis, data, sampling and analyses procedures, and compares the values for one combination of duration and rare frequency of three major generalized rainfall frequency studies published over a period of 44 years. Even though there are considerable differences in the sampling periods, number of stations, and analyses procedures, the comparisons of 100-year 24-hour values at corresponding points on maps exhibit only about a 10-percent discrepancy. This is well within the range of error when expressing the data on a frequency basis. Tests with recent data strongly indicate that the frequency maps are, for all practical purposes, still applicable to today's extreme-value rainfall regime.
