Der Mechanismus des ozeanischen und des kontinentalen Produktionsvorganges

Zusammenfassung

In den letzten Jahren wurde von G. A. Riley auf Grund eingehender Messungen auf der Georges Bank eine gut begründete Theorie entwickelt, welche es gestattet, das verwickelte Zusammenspiel der verschiedenen äußeren Faktoren bei den Lebensvorgängen im Meere in wesentlichen Punkten aufzuklären und quantitativen Betrachtungen zugänglich zu machen. Auf diesen Ergebnissen fußend wird in der vorliegenden Abhandlung versucht, eine diagrammartige Darstellung des ozeanischen Produktionskreislaufes zu entwickeln, welche die hier vorliegenden Verhältnisse und Gesetzmäßigkeiten in ihrer quantitativen Abhängigkeit in besonders übersichtlicher Form anschaulich macht. An Hand eines Diagramms, das die entsprechenden mutmaßlichen Verhältnisse auf dem Kontinent widergibt, werden die beiderseitigen Gegensätzlichkeiten besonders deutlich gemacht.

Summary

Based on detailed and careful measurements on the Georges Bank G. A. Riley has recently developed a well founded theory which permits the essential elucidation of the complicated interaction of the various external factors in the biological processes in the sea and to consider them from a quantitative point of view. Proceeding from these results an attempt is made in the following paper to represent the circulation of marine production in a diagram which illustrates the circumstances and laws in question with regard to their quantitative interrelation in an exceedingly clear manner. By the help of a tentative corresponding diagram of the continental biological circulation the contrary features in the two realms of production are made particularly apparent.
