Summary

Based on the current measurments which Pillsbury has carried out in the region of the Antilles the water transport into the American Mediterranean is computed at 28·106 m3/sec. This computation is for the depths between the surface and 230 m; including the deeper layers (by extrapolation) 31·106 m3/sec are found. This result is in good agreement with the outflow through the Florida Strait which — according to Montgomery — ranges between 26,0 and 30,3·106 m3/sec. It is estimated that at least 70 percent of this water mass originates from the Guiana Current.
