Summary

Acetophnone, a substance stable at room temperature, is readily oxidizes in a high temperature open tubular liquid chromatographic system by the residual oxygen in the mobile phase. The oxidation product is less UV absorptive and detection sensitivity decreases greatly. To prevent the oxidation, through degassing of the mobile phase is necessary.
