Summary
The Rf value (ratio of spot migration distance to solvent front migration distance from the origin) is widely used to characterize component spots in TLC. A more valid parameter for multiple development techniques, however, is the distance of the spot from the bottom edge of the TLC plate. The exact conditions of chromatography must parameter in specific cases is presented.
