Summary
The asymptotic form of the diffusivity tensor in shear flow (in particular Ekman flow) is applied to a two-dimensional, vertically averaged diffusion equation with a decay term of the first order. Some classical solutions for point sources are reviewed and applied to the shear flow model; solutions for non-constant sources are discussed, putting into evidence the cut-off effect of the diffusive process in the high frequency range. A simple application to experimental data on mesoscale distance is also shown.
