Isolation of a strain of influenza-a-virus from the trachea in a case of influenza pneumonia in the winter of 1947

Summary

A description is given of the isolation of an influenza virus strain from the trachea of a patient who died from tracheo-bronchitis with broncho-pneumonia due toStaphylococcus aureus (February 1947). On serological analysis the strain proved to be an A-strain with an antigenic composition differing considerably from pre-1947 A-strains.
