Summary
A method is described for gas chromatographic separation and determination of ascorbic acid and its reaction products. Almost all the reaction products of ascorbic acid can be simultaneously separated and quantitatively determined, including unstable intermediates. The aqueous solution of sample is rapidly frozen (−45°C), is freezedried and silylated with hexamethyldisilazane and trimethylchlorsilane in dimethylformamide. The gas chromatographic separation is carried out with 10% UCCW 982 on Chromosorb WAW DMCS with N2 as carrier gas and with temperature programming (4°C min−1 100°C up to 280°C).
