Summary

The fractionation of polystyrene materials including NBS polystyrene standards 705 and 706 was investigated by liquid adsorption chromatography. Identification of some of the individual components was achieved by infrared spectroscopy using solid pellets, micro internal reflectance techniques and computer-based background substraction methods. Ultraviolet spectroscopy was used as an additional means of identification. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are discussed.
