Summary
A series of chemically modified silica supports was prepared by surface reactions yielding bonded phases of the type Si−R (phenylsilyl, diphenylsilyl, triphenylsilyl, α-naphthylsilyl, triphenylmethylsilyl, trimethylsilyl). The retention behaviour of different solutes on columns filled with these modified supports was studied by means of gas solid chromatography. It was shown that the capacity factors of the solutes depend strongly on the concentration of the remaining hydroxyls and on the type and concentration of the organosilyl groups, which were bonded to the surface of the support.
