Summary
The separation of enantiomeric amino acid derivatives on chiral stationary phases is believed to be predominantly due to the formation of hydrogen bond complexes between the stationary phase and the, enantiomeric solutes. The separation of D-and L-amino acids on a stationary phase which does not allow the formation of hydrogen bonds between solvent and solutes indicates that interactions other than hydrogen bonding are responsible for enantiomeric separations.
