Summary
In view of the peak-area-allocation of overlapping peaks peakshapes and variations in retention have been studied on different GLC-columns with respect to concentration and type of solute. Though peak-beginnings and half-widths vary only slightly with changing concentrations, the peak-maxima show distinct shifts, due to concentration and retention time. This effects great variations of the symmetry-indices (ratio of ascent to descent). On the descent of so-called “reverse peaks” — slow ascent and steep descent — has been found a region of extreme curvature in 1–3% peakheight, after which a pronounced tailing occurs. The magnitude of said tailing as well as the point of maximum bend are not predictable from peakshape, and hence prevent an exact area-allocation.
