Summary
Thin-layer chromatography has been performed on plates spread with polystyrene-imminodiacetate-exchanger (Chelex 100) bound to the ammonia complexes of different metal ions such as nickel(II), zinc(II), copper(II) and cobalt(III). A ligand-exchange effect was evidenced in the separation of some diamines, α-amino acids and carboxylic acids. The method may be used for the analysis of very dilute solutions and as a useful test of the best operating conditions for column chromatography.
