Summary
Polyacrylnitrile, Polyacrylic acid amide, and N-Acetyl-polyacrylic acid amide were investigated as new sorbents for TLC. Their properties are compared with each other, as well as with Polyamide (Woelm). The materials are finely powdered substances giving very good adhering layers on glass-plates, using alcoholic suspensions. They are suitable for the separation of water-soluble substances, being able to form hydrogen-bonds, especially with acids (aminoacids, dicarboxilic acids, sulfonic acids) and particulary of sugars. The mechanism of the separation is discussed.
