Summary
Even the so-called inert supports (silanized siliceous, PTFE, or graphite support) are able, in GLC, to give some interferent adsorption phenomena, if the amount of stationary phase is small.
The adsorption characteristics of some types of hydrocarbons have been examined; they demonstrate the important errors that can appear when determining relative retention values or retention indexes with lightly loaded supports.
