Summary
Methods derived by Brunt and Kondratyev to estimate the net radiation in infrared wavelengths at the ground are compared to observations and to each other. Estimates by the two methods consistently have about the same value, which indicates that the effects of temperature and moisture stratification above the surface layer. which are included in Kondratyev's method but not in Brunt's are either not important or not correctly modeled in Kondratyev's simplified theoretical approach.
