Summary
The most generally accepted solution to the problem of dissemination of suspended matter in the lower layers of the atmosphere from an instantaneous point-type source is discussed. A brief review of the diffusion problem as approached bySutton through both the mixing length concept and the statistical method is then given, and consistency of results is mentioned. An equation for dosage from an instanteneous point source, equivalent to concentration from a particular form of a continuous point source, as formed bySutton, is stressed so as to attempt its solving by a graphical concept. A useful relationship is evolved by means of a nomogram formed from using a determinant procedure. A rarely used diffusion equation is thus found to be quickly solvable, in particular, while the basis of utilizing such a tool for solving difficult and lengthy atmospheric diffusion equations is shown in general.
