Summary
Using the method of variance-spectrum-analysis the authors investigate the persistency of some parameters of solar and geomagnetic activity. The monthly means of sunspot numbers and the 10.7 cm-radiation flux show nearly identical autocorrelation functions with long persistency. The spectra contain only very long waves. The spectrum of the flare-index contains a wave with a period of about ten months, but is otherwise very similar to the other solar spectra. The spectra of the series of the sum ofK p indices and of the series ofA p indices show waves with periods of about 2, 6 and 48 months. This result indicates that one would better use solar wind data for correlations with geomagnetic indices instead of the cited solar indices.
