The relation of net and solar radiation over bare sand surfaces

Die Relation zwischen Bilanz- und Globalstrahlung über nackten Sandflächen

Summary

Linear regression relations between net radiation (R) and global solar radiation (Q+q) of the formR=a(Q+q)+b are presented for bare sand surfaces of a coastal beach. Four beach zones, divided on the basis of surface moisture are included ranging from the dry sand to the surf. Relationships are presented for four weather types based on degree of sky cover. It is suggested that the relation between net and global solar radiation is a fundamental link in the process of climatic causation and may afford the basis for a rational climatic delimitation system based on surface type that is applicable for microclimatic work. Comparison with the results of other studies indicates the dry sand has relations close to those for bare soil or urban environments. The wet sand is a good approximation of many irrigated crops or forest surfaces.
