Summary

This study firstly develops a model for estimating diurnal temperatures over a 24-hour period using a sinusoidal model during the daytime and Walter's model during the night. The results obtained with this model are better than those obtained using Walter's model during the entire 24-hour period. Secondly, the type of maximum and minimum temperatures employed as input data in the model are investigated and modifications to the mean maximum and minimum temperature introduced. The modified data give better results for all models tested, compared to the results obtained using mean maximum and minimum temperatures.
